    Meet at the Mahon Park Demonstration garden by the Spray Park west of Jones Avenue between 18th Street and 19th Street.
    Join the Mahon Park Stewards in getting our Native Demonstration Garden ready for the winter.
    We will be cutting back, weeding and mulching with leaves.

    Join Mahon Park Stewards in a working walk through the park. Work will continue from where it left off last month starting from the Keith Trailhead.
    The Mahon Park Stewardship Coordinator, Eva, was fortunate to visit NO Ivy League in Portland recently and has some new wisdom to share, in addition to other updates.

    Join the Mahon Park Stewards in a working walk through the park. We will continue our work from where we left it last Thursday, just to the right from the stairs leading into the park down from West 15th Street.

    The garden showcases the beauty of our BC native plants and uses principles of habitat gardening that can be practiced in your home garden.
    Mayor Barbara Sharp will open the garden. Master gardeners will be on site to answer your gardening questions. Native Plant Sale by Pacific Rim Nursery, displays, door prizes and cake for all.

  • INDIAN ARM NATURE CRUISE

    Depart from the Deep Cove public dock in North Vancouver.
    Enjoy the shoreline along the southern half of Indian Arm with TLC - The Land Conservancy's latest nature cruise.
    TLC and guest naturalist, Terry Tobin, will be providing Lower Mainland residents with a scenic tour up spectacular Indian Arm to Thwaytes Landing. All participants will be encouraged to explore the Landing so make sure to bring some comfy shoes for the rocky beach.
    Thwaytes Landing is located in Indian Arm, in the District of North Vancouver.
    This impressive 130-acre site includes 1,100 meters of shoreline, cliffs with rocky outcrops, three year-round streams, waterfalls, and a mature coniferous forest.
    In 1927, Captain Tom Thwaytes with his wife, Anya, a Russian princess, built the heritage home that is still standing today. Steep, spectacular cliffs characterize Indian Arm. The site is managed as a park by GVRD Parks, and is a partnership between TLC, the District of North Vancouver and the GVRD.
    Terry Tobin is passionate about the natural world and very knowledgeable about Indian Arm. He works as a wildlife interpreter, educator and environmental consultant, and has explored the remote areas of BC, Yukon and Alaska by kayak, raft and on foot.
    COST: $40+GST, but TLC members with a membership card get 10% off.

    Proceeds from the boat cruise will go directly towards preservation of Thwaytes Landing.

    This will be followed by a brainstorming session where we would like all attendees to come up with ideas to help improve our stewardship efforts.

    The 2 day course will cover Modules 1,2,3,4,7 & 11 of the Streamkeepers Handbook.
    Location: We will meet at Princess Park in North Vancouver. It is on Princess Avenue Northwest of Lynn Valley Centre. Go up Mountain Highway to Wellington, left on Wellington to end left on Princess, turn left into parking lot.
    Instructors: Dianne Ramage and ZoAnn Morten
    Please bring a pencil, calculator, bag lunch and your enthusiasm. Dress for the weather and be sure to wear your boots or waders. All class time is in the field.
    Price: $50. per student. Streamkeepers Handbook and Modules can be purchased at the course for the reduced price of $20.

    WESTVIEW DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL

    A development proposal has been submitted to the City of North Vancouver concerning property located in the southwest quadrant at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Westview overpass. The property is currently owned by the Ministry of Highways. The proposal is to subdivide the existing parcel to allow 9 single family homes - the maximum allowed under city bylaws.
    A public meeting was held on February 17.
    Anyone with an interest in submitting comments or concerns should send them in writing to the Approving Officer for the City of North Vancouver.
