CAR OWNERS

Wash the car with plain water or use a Car Wash
Water and other runoff from your driveway and property drains onto the street and then into the storm drains located along the edge of the street.
Almost all storm drains on the North Shore empty into local streams.
Detergents and other chemicals harm fish and wildlife and plants.
Commercial Car Wash businesses have closed system drains which are connected to the sanitary sewer system which carries the waste water directly to the waste treatment facility.
Do not let soap, gasoline, oil, or antifreeze get down the storm drains
Almost all storm drains on the North Shore empty into local streams.
Protect streams and fish by keeping harmful substances away.
Rinsing is not an effective solution because some substances settle along the inside bottom of the storm drain pipes. The sludge collects there until a heavy rainfall produces enough water to carry it into the nearest creek. When that happens, the stream receives a large concentrated dose of chemicals all at once.
