ENVIRONMENT ACTIVITIES

CARSON GRAHAM SECONDARY SCHOOL

(Lower Mission Creek)
PLANTING
Gardening and planting has been put on hold while a new school building is being constructed. The design is to be LEED certified.
The grounds will be available again after landscaping is complete, possibly in 2012.
Students have been helping to remove invasive plants from city parks, in cooperation with the City of North Vancouver and the Evergreen Foundation.
ROOTS AND SHOOTS CLUB
The Roots & Shoots Club takes part in the international Adopt-a-Highway Program, created to help make roadsides cleaner, safer and more attractive. Students adopted an intersection at Westview near the highway. They meet there once a month to clean up litter and garbage.
GREEN TEAM
The environment club has been giving presentations on various topics, such as recycling and energy conservation at other schools nearby.
They have also been involved in the Cape Farewell Climate Project.
PAST PROJECTS
ENVIRONMENT CLUB

On "Tupperware Day" edible rewards were given to students who packed lunches in reuseable containers.
To mark Earth Week 1999, an apple tree was planted in the school courtyard.
PAST PROJECTS
BUILDING PLANTERS

The Grade 11 woodworking class built large planter boxes for Carisbrooke Elementary School in 1998, then helped to install and plant them. In 1999, they added a compost bin.
