FLOOD MANAGEMENT

Municipalities design and install flood water control structures to protect property. Catch basins and debris racks can be found on many North Shore creeks.
The control system is evaluated from time to time, and upgrading is done. Floods are classed as 50 year, 100 year, or 200 year events, which refers to the likelihood of a certain volume of water occuring within a period of time.

The main stream and any structures on it, such as culverts and bridges, were compared to 200 year flood level requirements.
